A plantain is a tropical fruit in the genus Musa that looks similar to a banana, but is not as sweet and soft. Plantains are typically used in cooking or processing and not eaten raw unless very ripe.

Plantains are usually boiled and made into a soup in Jamaica or Honduras. Ripe plantains are typically steamed and eaten for breakfast in Kerala cuisine.

Plantains are often found in recipes that also contain coconut oil, chicken stock, lime juice and arrowroot powder
