Maple syrup is a sweet syrup made from the xylem sap of the black maple, red maple, or sugar maple tree. The syrup is made by boring a hole in the tree trunk, collecting the sap, and then boiling it to reduce the water content, concentrating the syrup.

Maple syrup is often used as a condiment on breakfast foods like pancakes, waffles or French toast. It also used as a sweetener or flavoring for baked goods or in savory dishes.

Maple syrup is often found in recipes that also contain coffee, sirloin, brussels sprouts, acorn squash, five-spice powder and hazelnuts
