Cranberry sauce is a relish or sauce made from cranberries. This comes in many varieties, and flavor depends on where it is made. For example, it is usually sweetened in North America, and has more of a sour taste in Europe. A basic cranberry sauce is made by boiling cranberries in water with sugar until the berries pop, thickening the mixture. Although it is called a sauce, it is usually eaten by itself as a side dish rather than as a condiment. Cranberry sauce is a common side dish found in Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner in the United States.

Cranberry sauce is often found in recipes that also contain marshmallows, almond extract, oats and sweet potatoes
