Also referred to as the Cowboy Bean in Texas, the pinto bean is common to the United States and northwestern Mexico. They are usually eaten whole, mashed, or refried. Pinto beans are typically the beans used in refried beans, and chili con carne, depending on locale. Whole or mashed beans are often used in burrito fillings.


Pinto beans are often found in recipes that also contain ancho chiles, dried, beer, kidney beans, Italian sausage, hot pepper sauce and green chiles
