Southern Comfort, sometimes abbreviated as SoCo, is a liqueur made from neutral spirits flavored with fruit, spice and whiskey. It has its origins in New Orleans, invented by bartender Martin Wilkes Heron in 1874. In the US, Southern Comfort is available as 70 proof (35% alcohol) or 100 proof (50% alcohol).

Southern Comfort is often found in recipes that also contain amaretto, Irish Cream, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and banana schnapps
