Muenster cheese is an American cheese, with a name derived from the German city of Münster. Muenster is a smooth white cheese with an orange rind, made from cow's milk. This mild cheese has a taste comparable to jack cheese and white American cheese. However, it can develop a sharper flavor and aroma when aged in some cases.

Muenster melts well and is often used in grilled cheese sandwiches, cheeseburgers, quesadillas and tuna melts.
