Cardamom is the dried, unripened fruit of the perennial Elettaria cardamomum. Enclosed in the fruit pods are tiny, brown, aromatic seeds which are pungent to taste. It's a major ingredient in South-East Asian spice mixes (i.e. curry and garam masala), chai tea, and used as a coffee additive in Arab countries. It's also popular in Scandanavian cuisine.

Cardamom is often found in recipes that also contain peppercorn, ghee, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, whipping cream and garam masala
